Responsible Service of Alcohol in NSW Australia

As a result of recent changes in legislation and in the interests of its members, guests, visitors and the community, Castle Hill Bowling Club Limited advises:

ALCOHOL

Responsible service of alcohol is vital for legal, health and community reasons. Our society is now less tolerant of the irresponsible use of alcohol that leads to drunkenness, drink driving, and underage drinking. We are now far more aware of the serious social problems associated with such behaviour.

Castle Hill Bowling Club is making a conscious effort to observe and monitor laws regarding Responsible Service of Alcohol by adopting the following procedures:- ·

  • Commencement of Club Policy
  • Staff Training
  • Assisting Club Patrons Understand the Law
  • Prevent Under-Age Drinking
  • Promotion of Safe Transport Options

PREVENTING INTOXICATION

The Law

A person shall not sell or supply any liquor to any person who is, at the time, in a state of intoxification

PENALTY $5,500

Club Policy

Castle Hill Bowling Club invites patrons to enjoy themselves and understands that, for many people, alcohol is a pleasurable part of their daily life - and we respect that. This Club Policy in no way limits people's choice to drink and enjoy themselves.

We are here to serve patrons with alcoholic beverages professionally, responsibly and in a friendly manner. What we don't want to do is allow people to drink to excess and place themselves, or other patrons and the community at risk.

It is therefore our policy not to serve people to intoxication or to those who are intoxicated, as displayed by one or any combination of the following signs:

  • Slurred speech
  • unsteady on feet
  • blood-shot eyes
  • vomiting
  • foul language
  • aggressive, violent behaviour
  • sleepy, unable to walk
  • irregular behaviour
  • lack of co-ordination
  • loss of bodily functions, and/or the inability to be reasonable.

Club's Responsibility

Staff will avoid serving anyone to the point of intoxification and refuse entry or service to anyone who is already intoxicated. Staff will inform patrons of the legal requirements, point out signs of intoxification (as referred above) and refer to Club Policy.

Intoxicated patrons or patrons deemed to be intoxicated by staff members must leave the premises immediately.

Patron's Responsibility

Patrons themselves should avoid drinking to the point of intoxification.

If warned or informed that alcohol will not be served to them, patrons should understand that their excessive drinking places themselves, other patrons, staff and the Club at risk and respect the decision of the staff member by not requesting further alcohol to be served.

Patrons must leave the premises immediately. A patron refusing to leave licensed premises can incur a $550 on the spot fine to a maximum of $5,500.

MANAGING INTOXICATED, VIOLENT, or DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOUR

The Law

The Licencee shall not permit intoxification, or any indecent violent or quarrelsome conduct, on their premises.

Club Policy

It is Castle Hill Bowling Club's policy not to allow intoxicated, violent or quarrelsome conduct on our premises. By working as a team, we can create a safe, enjoyable and friendly atmosphere.

Club's Responsibility

Don't wait for trouble to start. Try to anticipate problems by monitoring patrons. Always use good sense. When asking a person to leave, do so with appropriate language and non-aggressive body language.

Staff will request POLICE assistance if or when behaviour persists or expected behaviour is likely to become violent.

Patron's Responsibility

Don't drink to excess. Friends of people beginning to act in an offensive manner should intervene and attempt to moderate behaviour. Report possible offenders to staff.

If asked to leave, do so, or otherwise the police will be called and will deal with the situation themselves.

PENALTY: $550 on the spot to a maximum court fine of $5,500.

PREVENTION OF UNDER AGE DRINKING

The Law

A person shall not sell or supply liquor to a person under the age of 18 years The only forms of acceptable identification (id) are:

  1. A motor vehicle driver's licence or rider's licence issued by the RTA
  2. A Photo Card issued by the RTA
  3. A passport, either Australian or overseas

Club Policy

It is our aim not to allow under age persons into restricted areas of Castle Hill Bowling Club and to prevent under age drinking on the premises, at all times.

Club's Responsibility

It is the responsibility of every staff member not to allow underage drinking on our premises. Staff are to check the age of all persons suspected of being under the age of 18, when entering the Club. Refuse entry to anyone who cannot produce one of the three acceptable forms of identification. Bar staff are directly responsible to check the age of all persons that you suspect are under age, when they are ordering drinks.

Don't assume that because a person is in the Club, that they are over 18. If in doubt, "check it out".

All staff are responsible for the surveillance.

If you suspect some one is under age, always check. It is much better to be over cautious than risk penalty fines and place the Club's licence in jeopardy. If persons make a fuss, explain the law and inform them if they can't produce the accepted ID, you can't serve them, and they must leave.

Patron's Responsibility

Patrons should not, knowingly or otherwise, supply alcohol to persons under the age of 18 or allow those persons into restricted areas.

PENALTY: $5,500 for each offence.

Thanking you for your cooperation

Yours Sincerely
Andrew Hughes
